Caitland:
Stephanie, I’ve been thinking about how we both pray. You and I love the Lord, but we come to Him in such different ways. I like to set aside a quiet time each day, kind of like Jesus did when He went off to pray alone.
Stephanie:
Yeah, I remember that verse—Jesus went out early in the morning to pray by Himself. I think it’s in Mark. I love that too, but I guess I pray more as I go. I’m talking to God all through the day—when I drive, when I cook, even when I’m just sitting outside.
Caitland:
That makes sense. I’ve read where the Bible says to “pray without ceasing,” so I know there’s something special about always being connected. For me though, having a quiet moment feels more focused. I bring God my needs, give thanks, and try to listen.
Stephanie:
And I admire that. You’re really faithful with your quiet time. For me, I used to pray mostly when I needed help, but now I see prayer more like a friendship. It’s not just about asking—it’s about staying close. Like when Jesus said, “I am the vine, and you are the branches.” I just try to stay connected.
Caitland:
I love that picture. Still, I do think God wants us to ask. Jesus told us to ask, seek, and knock. That tells me He wants to give good things, and I believe in asking with faith.
Stephanie:
Absolutely. I ask too, but I’m learning not to treat prayer like a vending machine. Paul said something in Philippians about God giving peace that passes understanding—and sometimes, that’s the answer. Just peace.
Caitland:
That’s true. There were times I didn’t get the answer I wanted, but I still felt peace. I’ve even sat in silence and just cried. But even then, I knew God was listening.
Stephanie:
That’s real. And Romans says the Spirit prays for us when we don’t have words. That comforts me a lot, especially when I feel too tired to speak.
Caitland:
So we both believe in asking, but you focus more on the relationship?
Stephanie:
Yes. I still ask for healing, for help, for answers. But I try not to base my faith on the results. Prayer isn’t about getting what I want—it’s about being with the One who loves me.
Caitland:
That’s a good reminder. Sometimes I forget to just be with God. I rush in, list off all my prayers, and forget to pause and listen.
Stephanie:
It’s okay. I think God hears it all—the rushed prayers, the quiet ones, the ones full of questions. He just wants us near.
Caitland:
Then maybe we both have something to learn from each other. You help me slow down. I help you pray boldly.
Stephanie:
Yes! And both matter. Jesus prayed in the garden with tears, but also taught us to say, “Your will be done.” That’s the balance I want in my prayer life.
Caitland:
Then let’s keep praying—your way, my way—as long as we keep our hearts open to Him.
Stephanie:
Amen to that.
